Best Working Capital Loans With an ITIN

If your business brings in revenue but you have an ITIN instead of an SSN, these are the working capital options worth comparing, and the ones that are no longer available.

With an ITIN, the best working capital options are funders that review your sales and deposits, online lines of credit that accept an ITIN in writing, and CDFIs or community microlenders. Our recommended funder is Merchant Fund Express, which accepts applicants with an ITIN (no SSN needed), offers Spanish-speaking support, often decides in 2 to 4 hours and accepts credit from FICO 500. SBA 7(a) and 504 loans are not an option unless every owner is a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.

Below you will find the ranking, what each option asks for and how to put together an ITIN application that makes sense the first time. For the general overview, read our guide to business loans with an ITIN. This page is not immigration advice: talk to an immigration attorney about your situation. Leer en español.

Key takeaways

  • An ITIN is an IRS tax-processing number; many private funders accept it, but each one decides for itself.
  • Since March 2026, SBA 7(a) and 504 loans require 100% of owners to be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals.
  • Bluevine says on its site you can apply for its line of credit with an SSN or ITIN, with FICO 625+, 12 months in business and $10,000 in monthly revenue.
  • Our recommended funder accepts ITIN applicants with no SSN, offers Spanish-speaking support, reviews deposits and accepts credit from FICO 500.
  • Many CDFIs and microlenders work with immigrant owners; ask directly whether they accept an ITIN.
  • A clean deposit history in a business account matters more than which kind of number you have.

The best working capital options with an ITIN, ranked

  1. Merchant Fund Express (recommended funder). It accepts applicants with an ITIN, no SSN needed, offers Spanish-speaking support and evaluates your business by what flows into your account: it reviews sales and deposits, not just your score. Amounts run $5,000 to $5,000,000, decisions often come in 2 to 4 hours, credit starts at FICO 500 and there is no collateral in most cases. Applying is free and does not affect your credit.

  2. Bluevine (line of credit). One of the few online companies that puts it in writing: you can apply for its line with an SSN or ITIN. It asks for $10,000 in monthly revenue, FICO 625 or higher, 12 months in business and a bank connection or three months of statements. Lines go up to $250,000 (per its site, checked October 2026).

  3. Local CDFI. Community development financial institutions are certified by the U.S. Treasury to serve communities that lack good access to credit. Many work with immigrant owners and some accept an ITIN, but the rules vary from one to the next. They usually cost less than online financing and take longer.

  4. Community microlenders. Nonprofits that lend smaller amounts, many with funds from the SBA microloan program (up to $50,000). Each sets its own ID requirements; ask whether it accepts an ITIN before you fill out the application.

  5. Community credit union. Some credit unions open accounts and make loans to members with an ITIN. If you already keep a personal or business account there, your history with them helps. The process looks more like a bank's: more paperwork and more time.

How we rank

We rank options on criteria you can check: speed, minimum time in business, minimum credit, ITIN acceptance or owners without an SSN, documents, amounts and collateral. We do not hand out ratings or use invented figures. We only credit a company with ITIN acceptance if its official site says so or the company has confirmed it to us; otherwise we tell you to ask. The full method is in how we rank business funding options.

On this page, ITIN acceptance carries the most weight, because a cheap option that will not take your application does you no good. That is why we left out SBA 7(a) and 504 loans, which now require U.S. citizenship or nationality for every owner.

What changed at the SBA in 2026

Until recently, some owners with permanent residency could take part in SBA loans. That changed. Since March 1, 2026, under SBA Procedural Notice 5000-876626 and SOP 50 10 8, 100% of the direct and indirect owners of a 7(a) or 504 loan applicant must be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals whose principal residence is in the U.S. Permanent residents (green card holders) can no longer own any share.

If you have an ITIN, that means 7(a) and 504 loans are not an option for your business, even if your numbers are strong. Do not spend weeks building a package for an SBA bank. Put your time into private funders, CDFIs and microlenders that say clearly which IDs they accept.

This rule applies to the 7(a) and 504 programs. If an organization offers you a different product, ask about its ownership requirements. And for any question about your status, the right person is an immigration attorney, not a funder.

How to build a strong application with an ITIN

With an ITIN, a funder may see less about you in the credit bureaus. Make up for it with clear paperwork:

  1. A business bank account. Run your sales through it, not your personal account, and do not leave cash undeposited. Three to six months of clean statements carry real weight.
  2. An EIN. Your business can have an EIN even if you personally have an ITIN. Many funders ask for one.
  3. Tax returns. Having filed with your ITIN shows income and organization. If you have not filed, talk to a tax preparer before you apply.
  4. Licenses and registration. Your city or county business license, your LLC registration if you have one, and any permits for your industry.
  5. Valid ID. A passport or whatever ID the funder accepts; ask which ones.
  6. ITIN credit history. If you have had cards or loans reported under your ITIN, that history counts.

Questions to ask before you apply

  • Do you accept applicants with an ITIN and no SSN? For all products or only some?
  • Which IDs do you accept: passport, consular ID, state license?
  • Is the prequalification a hard or soft credit pull?
  • What minimum time in business and revenue do you require?
  • Are payments daily, weekly or monthly, and are there fees for paying early?

If the answer to the first question is vague, ask for it in writing. A "yes, sometimes" with no details often ends in a decline after you have already handed over all your paperwork. For the full checklist, see documents needed to apply with an ITIN.

Common mistakes ITIN holders make

  • Using someone else's SSN. Never. Besides being illegal, it puts that person and your business at risk.
  • Paying someone who promises a sure approval. No legitimate company charges upfront to get you a loan or promises approval.
  • Applying everywhere without asking first. Ask whether they accept an ITIN before you apply. You will save credit inquiries and frustration.
  • Running on cash only. If your sales do not show up in the bank, a funder cannot see them.
  • Signing what you do not understand. Ask for the contract in a language you understand or take it to someone you trust. Check how you repay (daily, weekly or monthly) and the total cost in writing.

When each option makes sense

If you need the money this week and your business has steady deposits, start with a revenue-based funder. Merchant Fund Express is the option we recommend: you can apply online for free without affecting your credit, with your ITIN, and get help in Spanish.

If you have 12 months in business, good credit under your ITIN and $10,000 a month in revenue, also compare a line of credit that accepts an ITIN in writing; a line lets you draw only what you need.

If you can wait a few weeks, look for a CDFI or microlender in your area. They usually cost less, and many offer coaching on your plan and your finances. If you want to start building history for the future, read building business credit with an ITIN.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a working capital loan with an ITIN?

Yes, through private funders, some online lines of credit, CDFIs, microlenders and some credit unions. Each one decides which IDs it accepts, so ask before you apply. What helps most is having your sales deposited into a business account and your taxes filed under your ITIN.

Can I get a business loan with an ITIN and no Social Security number?

Yes, with several private and community options. Our recommended funder accepts ITIN applicants with no SSN needed, and Bluevine says on its site you can apply for its line with an SSN or ITIN. What is off the table is an SBA 7(a) or 504 loan unless every owner is a U.S. citizen or national. For status questions, talk to an immigration attorney.

Does Merchant Fund Express accept an ITIN and offer help in Spanish?

Yes to both. It accepts applicants with an ITIN, no SSN needed, and offers Spanish-speaking support. It reviews sales and deposits, not just your score, with amounts from $5,000 and credit from FICO 500. Applying is free and does not affect your credit.

Why can I not use an SBA loan with an ITIN?

Since March 1, 2026, the SBA requires 100% of the direct and indirect owners of a 7(a) or 504 applicant to be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals whose principal residence is in the U.S. A person with an ITIN does not meet that rule, so those two programs are not available to the business.

Do I need an EIN if I have an ITIN?

It is not required for everyone, but it helps a lot. Your business can get an EIN from the IRS even if you have an ITIN, and many funders and banks ask for one to open accounts or approve capital. Keep your personal and business finances separate from day one.

Does the credit I built with my ITIN count?

Yes. If you have used cards or loans reported under your ITIN, that history shows up on your report and funders can see it. Paying on time and keeping balances low raises your score over time, the same way it does with an SSN.
