Backd (Austin Business Finance, LLC d/b/a Backd) is an Austin, Texas company that offers term loans and lines of credit to mid-sized businesses, plus B2B payment tools. Its term loan runs from $50,000 to $1.5 million with terms up to 24 months, and it asks for at least 1 year in business, a 650+ FICO score and $100,000 in monthly revenue (per its site, checked October 20, 2026). It is an option for established companies with good credit; if your business is smaller, newer or you only have an ITIN, look at alternatives.

In this review we cover what Backd publishes, who originates its loans, its requirements, who it fits and who it does not, what to check before you sign, and how it compares with Merchant Fund Express, our recommended funder, and other options. We do not give ratings: only verifiable facts and clear criteria.

Key takeaways

  • Backd offers term loans from $50,000 to $1.5 million with terms up to 24 months.
  • It requires 1 year in business, FICO 650+, $100,000 in monthly revenue, a business bank account and a U.S.-based business.
  • Its term loan is originated by FinWise Bank, a member FDIC, and serviced by Backd.
  • Per its site, applying does not affect your score, and its line of credit uses a soft pull.
  • Its site does not mention ITIN applicants or Spanish-language support.
  • Our recommended alternative works from FICO 500, accepts ITIN applicants and offers Spanish-speaking support.

What Backd is and who is behind it

This is what Backd shows on its official site (checked October 20, 2026):

  • Company: Austin Business Finance, LLC, doing business as Backd, based in Austin, Texas.
  • Who originates the loan: its legal disclosure says the term loan (an installment loan) is originated by FinWise Bank, a Utah-chartered bank and member FDIC, and serviced by Backd.
  • Two business lines: Backd Capital (term loans and lines of credit) and Backd Payments (net terms and B2B "buy now, pay later" for business-to-business sales).
  • Language: we found no Spanish version of the site and no mention of Spanish-language support.

Some details do not match across sections of the site, such as the minimum amount and payment frequency. Ask for the amount, term and payment frequency of your offer in writing.

Other points it publishes: the application takes about 3 minutes and does not affect your score; the line of credit uses a soft credit pull; and it talks about same-day decisions, while noting that the decision and funding can take longer and that it may ask for more information. It also states that approval, amount and cost are not assured.

Backd term loan requirements

Backd publishes these minimum requirements for its term loan:

RequirementWhat Backd asks forWhat it means for you
Time in business1 year minimumNew businesses are out
CreditFICO 650+Below that, you do not qualify
Revenue$100,000 per monthA high bar: about $1.2 million a year
Bank accountBusiness checking accountSales mixed into a personal account work against you
LocationU.S.-based businessMust be registered and operating here

To see whether you clear the revenue bar, add up the sales deposits on your business bank statements for the last 3 to 6 months and divide by the number of months. Do not count transfers between your own accounts, loan proceeds or deposits from your personal account: any funder strips those out when reviewing statements. If your real average is far from $100,000, save time and apply where your profile fits.

What we did not find on its site: whether it accepts ITIN applicants or owners without an SSN, whether it offers support in Spanish, or a list of restricted industries. If any of those matter to you, ask before applying.

Who Backd fits, and who it does not

Backd may fit if:

  • Your company brings in $100,000 or more a month and has at least a year of history.
  • Your FICO score is 650 or higher.
  • You need a large amount, $50,000 and up, over a term of up to 24 months.
  • You sell to other businesses and want to offer your customers payment terms through its Net Terms product.

It probably does not fit if:

  • Your business sells less than $100,000 a month. Many restaurants, auto shops, salons and small contractors fall below that line.
  • You have been open less than a year or your credit is under 650.
  • You only have an ITIN or prefer support in Spanish: its site mentions neither.
  • You need less than $25,000.
  • You want a multi-year term; for that, compare bank or SBA options in our complete guide to business term loans.

What to check before signing with Backd

No review replaces your own due diligence. Before signing with Backd or any online funder:

  1. Go to the official site yourself by typing the address into your browser. Do not follow links in texts or emails you did not ask for.
  2. Ask for the APR and total dollar cost in writing, plus any origination fee.
  3. Confirm the payment frequency. Daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly makes a big difference to your cash flow.
  4. Ask what happens if you pay early. Some term loans discount remaining interest and others do not.
  5. Read the personal guarantee and any liens on business assets.
  6. Verify who the lender is on the contract. Here, Backd's legal disclosure names FinWise Bank as the originator.
  7. Read recent reviews on independent sites and look for complaints about collections or service.

If something you were told on the phone is not in the contract, it does not exist for you. Ask them to add it, or do not sign.

Backd Payments: payment terms for your customers

Besides lending, Backd sells tools for companies that sell to other companies. With Net Terms you can let customers pay in 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days, and with its B2B "buy now, pay later" option your buyers can finance purchases for up to 24 months (per its site). The idea is that you get paid sooner while your customer pays later.

This may appeal to a food distributor, a construction supply company or a wholesaler that extends informal credit today and struggles waiting to get paid. Before using it, ask:

  • Who carries the risk if your customer does not pay: you or Backd.
  • What percentage or fee you are charged per financed sale.
  • When you receive the money after the sale.
  • What your customer experiences: whether they will be billed by a third party, and in what language.

If your customers already pay you in 30 or 60 days and what you lack is cash, compare this tool with accounts receivable factoring, which also turns receivables into cash today. They are different products: one changes how you get paid, the other advances what you have already invoiced.

Backd alternatives: an honest comparison

If Backd is not a fit for your business, here are alternatives, with data from their official sites:

SBA 7(a)Up to $5 millionSet by the bankSet by the bankUsually costs less if you qualify; owners must be U.S. citizens or nationals

Our recommendation. For most Hispanic and immigrant owners, our recommended funder is the better starting point: it reviews sales and deposits, not just credit; considers profiles from FICO 500; works with amounts from $5,000; accepts applicants with an ITIN (no SSN needed); offers Spanish-speaking support; and does not require collateral in most cases. Applying is free and has no impact on your credit. To be honest: if you have good credit, time and you qualify for an SBA loan, that will usually cost less. Frequently asked questions

Is Backd legit?

Backd publishes its legal name (Austin Business Finance, LLC), its Austin, Texas address, and that its term loan is originated by FinWise Bank, a member FDIC. That is a good transparency signal. Still, read recent reviews, use only its official site and read the full contract, including cost, payment frequency and guarantees, before you sign.

What are Backd's requirements?

For its term loan, Backd publishes: at least 1 year in business, a FICO score of 650 or higher, $100,000 in monthly revenue, a business bank account and a U.S.-based business (per its site, checked October 2026). Those are high bars compared with many other online funders.

Does applying with Backd affect my credit?

Per its site, the application takes about 3 minutes and does not affect your score, and its line of credit uses a soft pull. Before accepting an offer, ask whether any step will involve a hard inquiry, because that can show up on your report.

Can I get a Backd business loan with only an ITIN?

Its site does not say, so we cannot confirm it. If you only have an ITIN, ask before applying. One alternative that does accept it is Merchant Fund Express, which works with ITIN applicants, no SSN needed, and offers Spanish-speaking support.

What is the smallest amount Backd lends?

Its product pages show term loans from $50,000 and lines of credit from $50,000, although another section of the site mentions amounts from $25,000. If you need less, other options start lower, such as OnDeck from $5,000 or our recommended funder from $5,000.

What should I do if Backd turns me down because of my revenue?

The $100,000-a-month threshold rules out many small businesses, and that does not mean your business is not fundable. Look for funders that review your deposits with lower requirements, run all sales through a business account and, if you can wait, explore an SBA loan or a microloan.
