Currency (CurrencyFinance) is an equipment financing platform based in Scottsdale, Arizona, that connects businesses in the U.S. and Canada with a network of funders to buy heavy machinery, trucks, trailers, agricultural and landscaping equipment, among other things. According to its site, it facilitates loans of up to $500,000 with an application only, and up to $20,000,000 with full financial statements, with terms up to 72 months. It fits best with established businesses that have 2+ years in operation, 600+ credit and a clear business use for the equipment.
If your business is newer, your credit is lower, you have an ITIN instead of an SSN, or you need capital for more than the equipment, Merchant Fund Express, our recommended funder, is an alternative that reviews your sales and deposits. Below is what Currency publishes (per its site, checked October 2026), a pros and cons table and an honest comparison.
Key takeaways
- Currency is a platform that connects you with a network of funders; per its own disclosure, in some states it is not the one lending the money.
- According to its site, it facilitates up to $500,000 with an application only and up to $20,000,000 with full financials.
- Terms run up to 72 months; it says up to five years is typical, sometimes six for strong profiles.
- You are in a stronger position with FICO 600+, 2+ years in business, business credit history and 20%+ ownership.
- It does not charge to apply and checks credit with a soft pull, per its site.
- It offers annual, semiannual, quarterly, seasonal and 90-day deferred payment structures.
What Currency is and how it works
Currency has two divisions: CurrencyFinance, for equipment, trucks, trailers and vehicles, and CurrencyAir, for aircraft. This review focuses on CurrencyFinance. Here is what its site says (checked October 2026):
- Model. It describes itself as a financing platform that connects businesses and consumers with funders. For dealers it mentions a network of more than 30 funders. Its disclosure for Vermont residents states that CurrencyFinance is not the lender and that information may be shared with third parties.
- Process. You fill out an online application, its team reviews it, looks for funders that match what you need and, if you are approved, guides you through to funding.
- Speed. It says it has helped buyers secure financing in as little as 24 hours at times, and that response time depends on when you apply, whether you are a business or a consumer, and whether there is enough information for an instant decision.
- Equipment it finances. Construction, agricultural, commercial trucks, trailers, forestry, lawn and landscaping, cranes, lifts, paving, mining, power systems, RVs, boats and powersports. It accepts new and used equipment.
- Products. Loans, leases, equipment finance agreements (EFAs), sale-leasebacks, refinancing and short-term working capital.
- Language. The site we reviewed was in English, with a French version for Canada. We did not find published Spanish-language support.

Currency's requirements
Currency says different factors weigh on the decision and different combinations can produce different results. For U.S. commercial applicants, you are in a stronger position if you have (per its site, checked October 2026):
- A FICO score of 600 or higher.
- Two or more years in business.
- Business credit history.
- 20% or more ownership of the business.
- An essential business use for the equipment.
Its site also says financing is available "regardless of your credit score and payment history." Read that as marketing: your score does affect the rate and whether you are approved, as its own list of requirements makes clear.
Documents it may ask for:
| Document or detail | What Currency publishes |
|---|---|
| Bank statements | Three months |
| Time in business | For example, Schedule C (sole proprietor) or Schedule F (farmer) |
| Proof of ownership | Schedule K-1 (Form 1120-S), ownership statement or articles of incorporation |
| Equipment details | Total cost, year, make, model and category; optional down payment |
| Personal details | Name, contact info, address, citizenship status, marital status and last four of the SSN |
| Business details | Exact legal name, address, industry, time in business, annual revenue, your ownership percentage and EIN |
Notice two things: the application asks for the last four digits of your SSN and your citizenship status. Currency does not mention the ITIN in what we reviewed, so if you do not have an SSN, ask before you apply.
Terms, payments and cost
- Amounts. Up to $500,000 with an application only; up to $20,000,000 with full financial statements.
- Terms. Up to 72 months. Its FAQ says up to five years is typical, or six for stronger profiles, and that shorter terms tend to carry lower rates.
- Rate. It does not publish a fixed rate: it depends on your personal and business credit, the equipment, your time in business and your industry. It says it works with credit profiles from A to D.
- Down payment. It says one is generally not required for equipment, trucks and trailers, and that it often facilitates loans with little or no money down.
- Flexible payments. Annual, semiannual, quarterly, seasonal and 90-day deferred. That is useful for agricultural or construction businesses with strong seasons.
- Cost to apply. It does not charge to apply or prequalify, and the credit check when you submit is a soft pull. Keep in mind the final funder may run its own check.
Before you sign, get the offer in writing and review the rate, fees, any prepayment penalty and what happens to the equipment if you fall behind. If you are torn between buying and leasing, read equipment loan vs. lease.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High equipment amounts, with the option to reach $20,000,000 with financials | Built for established businesses: 2+ years and FICO 600+ are ideal |
| Seasonal, quarterly and deferred payments | Asks for the last four of the SSN and citizenship status; no ITIN mention |
| No fee to apply and a soft credit pull | No published rates; they depend on the funder you are matched with |
| Accepts used equipment, refinancing and sale-leasebacks | Equipment-focused; not for general business capital |
| Few documents for application-only amounts | No published Spanish-language support |
Who it fits: a contractor with several years in business buying a used excavator, a carrier with good credit adding a trailer, or a landscaping company that wants to pay more in spring and less in winter. Who it does not fit: a business only a few months old, an owner with credit below 600, someone with only an ITIN, or anyone who needs money for payroll, inventory or repairs on top of the equipment.
Currency vs. Merchant Fund Express and other alternatives
Currency makes sense if your business is established, your credit is good and you are buying a specific piece of equipment, especially heavy machinery or trucks, and the seasonal payments help you. If that is not your situation, here are the alternatives:
| Currency | Merchant Fund Express | Bank or SBA | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Equipment, trucks, trailers | Equipment, working capital, inventory, repairs | Equipment, improvements, working capital |
| Amount | Up to $500,000 with application only | $5,000 to $5,000,000 | SBA 7(a) up to $5 million |
| Credit | Best with FICO 600+ | From FICO 500 | Usually good credit |
| Time in business | Best with 2+ years | Looks at sales and deposits | Usually 2+ years |
| ITIN | Not mentioned; asks for partial SSN | Accepts ITIN applicants | SBA 7(a)/504: all owners must be citizens or nationals since March 2026 |
| Spanish | Not published | Spanish-speaking support | Depends on the bank |
| Collateral | Usually the equipment | Not required in most cases | Almost always |
Our recommended funder fits better if you want to buy equipment and also cover installation, repairs or working capital in a single financing, if your credit is below 600 or if you apply with an ITIN (no SSN needed). It often decides in 2–4 hours, and applying is free with no impact to your credit. If you qualify for a bank or SBA loan and can wait, that route usually costs less. How to decide and how to apply
- Define the equipment: make, model, year, price and whether it is new or used.
- Check your profile: credit, time in business, ownership share and whether you have an SSN or an ITIN.
- Gather three months of bank statements and your Schedule C or F, or your company documents.
- Get at least two offers and compare rate, term, down payment, fees and penalties.
- Pick a payment schedule that matches your cash flow: monthly if sales are steady, seasonal if your business has a season.
If you would rather work with an option that looks at your sales, accepts ITIN applicants and offers Spanish-speaking support, you can apply with Merchant Fund Express. If your question is how to finance equipment without an SSN, read equipment financing with an ITIN.
Frequently asked questions
Does Currency lend the money itself?
Currency describes itself as a platform that connects businesses with a network of funders. Its disclosure for Vermont residents says CurrencyFinance is not the lender, and for California it states that financing is made or arranged by Express Tech-Financing, LLC, which does business as Currency. In practice, your offer may come from different funders in its network.
What credit score do I need for Currency?
Currency does not publish a hard minimum, but it says U.S. commercial applicants are in a stronger position with a FICO of 600 or higher, two or more years in business, business credit history and 20% or more ownership. For consumer loans for recreational use, it mentions 650 or higher.
Can I get Currency equipment financing with an ITIN?
We cannot say for sure. In what we reviewed, the application asks for the last four digits of your SSN and your citizenship status, and it does not mention the ITIN. Ask directly before applying. If you have an ITIN, Merchant Fund Express accepts ITIN applicants (no SSN needed) and reviews your sales and deposits.
Does applying with Currency affect my credit?
According to its site, it does not charge to apply or prequalify, and it checks your credit with a soft pull when you submit, with no initial impact on your score. Keep in mind that if you move forward, the final funder may run its own credit check, which could show up on your report.
Does Currency finance used equipment?
Yes. Its site says it helps finance many types of used equipment, including construction and industrial machinery, agricultural equipment, commercial vehicles and trailers. It also offers refinancing on equipment you already own and sale-leasebacks to free up cash tied up in your machinery.
Does Currency offer support in Spanish?
In what we reviewed in October 2026, its site was in English, with a French version for Canada, and we did not find published Spanish-language support. If you would rather handle the process in Spanish, our recommended funder offers Spanish-speaking support.
